Network Monitoring and Measurements

Performance monitoring of 3/4G and satellite networks

Description

We develop techniques and tools to uncover the performance of operational, wireless, wide area networks. In particular, we focus on 3/4G and satellite networks. We (i) develop novel techniques and tools that are deployed on such networks; we (ii) integrate them in operational platforms like OSS, BSS, CSA, NOC, etc; we (iii) coordinate the development of new tools that integrate our novel techniques. We use active and passive measurement approaches, to allow network operators to accurately monitor the status of the network, user behavior, quality of experience, etc., also discovering the causes of the possible performance impairments experimented by the users. On the root cause analysis, we have recently developed a technique that work on TCP packet traces and allows to understand the performance experimented by the users and the related root cause. The technique is called Multi-layer Root Cause Analysis (MRCA).
